Almost the new year

Well Christmas went by really fast... almost as fast as the storm hit here. I hate shoveling snow. Especially when I have to shovel 3 times because of the plows. It takes the plow over a day to even get to our street, then they completely block us in and it takes longer to get out of that then it did to even shovel the driveway. Needless to say, I am sore and bitter today.

Christmas was fun though. I got to see lots of family and ate some great food. I got everthing that I wanted and then some, so it was a success. Now it is time to look forward to new years.

I am really looking forward to the show on new years. I was thinking about staying in this year but Rock came calling and I was destined to answer. I like playing at the Attic and we are playing with King Konqueror and the Heelwalkers so the show couldn't get any more rock. I just hope that there is a good crowd to enjoy this with us. Last year was a really good time and this year I only have to play 2 sets so I can enjoy the show more this year.

That is about all that is new right now. All that is left to say is GO CANADA and Sidney Crosby!!

Getting ready for Xmas

I went and did some shopping last night and I hate shopping on a good night, but this sucked. Why does it have to be so stupid this time of year. Who came up with the idea of spending lots of money for one day of sugar induced bliss? I like getting stuff but I kind of feel like it is a bit of a let down when you spend months before talking and getting ready for a day that is almost the same as Thanksgiving except that you get a few presents. Seems kind of silly to me. Mabye my opinion will change when I have kids.

I got the office fixed up and was just about ready to start putting my little home studio together when Kel decided that it would be a great time to paint the room. The best part is that she doesn't know what color to paint it yet. That means that it won't be done until she can decide and I get it painted. So much for recording over my break. Hopefully I can get it all done before I go back to school on the 4th. I would love to be able to get recording here with my own stuff.

I am also going to be playing some shows in the new year with Benn Ross (Drummer for Thrush Hermit, Heavy Meadows, Tyler Messick, and many others). He asked me if I would be interested and of course I agreed. This will be a nice change from the hard rock/punk that I have been playing for the past few years. Not that I don't like doing that, I just like to change it up every now and then which is why I want to get my studio set up. I want to do something different.

I will be heading home to NB for a few days soon so until then.....

Time goes by....

Well quite a bit has happened since my last post. I guess I should start at the begining. There is no sex, drugs and... well I guess there is some rock and roll. I finished up school and that felt really good. I am pretty sure that I did well. Dead Red also played our first show in Halifax since april. It went well although I was hoping for more people. The ones that were there were nuts and really made it better for us as we were not having a very comfortable night. I was starting to get sick and didn't feel that well playing and Fabe had quite a few technical glitches. Excuses, excuses.... Everyone said that they had a good time but I feel like we let them down since things were shitty for us.
After that weekend, my exams started and finished and I got sicker. I don't know why but I always seem to get sick around xmas and it always seems to go right for my chest. I guess I should go ask the doctor about it but that would mean actually going to see the doctor and i am too lazy for that.
Not much has happened since that. I have been on the couch, went to see spongebob, and got back on the couch. I did watch Supersize Me, and if you haven't seen it then you should. It will change your opinion about fast food.
Last night was a really great night for me. Kel and I went to see the Nutcracker performance by SNS. It was the first time in about 4 years that we went together. I got to sit in the orchestra pit for 3 years watching my instructor Jim play, so it was nice to see the dancing again. It really puts me in the xmas mood after seeing it as I try to go every year and have except for last year for the past 10 as best as I can remember. I could be wrong though.
After the show, Kel and I went to Fabe's party. This was fun for me since it is all the people that I see playing in bands that are at these parties. Kel doesn't really know many of them as she doesn't come out to the shows often to meet these people. We left fairly early and went to bed.

Christmas is amost here and I still have to go and buy shit. Procrastinating is soooo easy though. My goals for this week are to finish shopping, clean up our office and finish all the work that needs to be done there and set up my little studio in the house for recording some of my own stuff. Lets see how much gets done.....

My Crazy Weekend

So I just had one crazy weekend. It started with a trip to Moncton on Friday night. We all piled into a van and headed out from Halifax. We got to town about 8:30 or so and started setting up all the gear for our show at the Paramount. It turns out that some friends of mine are playing in another room of the same building, so I went and hung out with the JSB boys for a bit and then went and got some Thai food for supper. Dead Red went on around 11 and we played a shakey set for us to a pretty receptive audience. The strangest part was having this chick request Gigi Allen and then Screwdriver. It still amazes me how openly racist people can be when there is no minority population there to teach them otherwise. Blackout followed and I managed to make it through playing another set and then got to begin drinking for the night. I got a few at the bar and headed to the band room to start off the night. I got hang out with the JSB guys and Kid Koala (he's a DJ). I went back and forth between the band room and watching the Malenko's play. I put down a few beer and more than I should have had of Jagermeister. That was when we found out about the house party that was going on around the corner from the club. We packed up our gear and headed out in JSB's tour van to the party with a pile of beer and girls. It was me and a friend of mine named Mike that went. Everyone else I was there with went back to the hotel to sleep. Mike and I went to the party and started to drink all the free booze that was there. This party was kicking!! It was a 4 floor house and they had a bar, PA system with DJ's spinning and guys rapping. We mostly hanged out with the guys in JSB but Mike got really drunk and had to sit in one spot for a while so I went on a mission to meet some new people. I headed downstairs where apparently all the drugs were. I spent some time there and met some interesting people who had cool political ideas that would never work (Dope will do that to you). Then around 6:30, Mike and I thought it would be best to head out to the hotel. We got back in time to wake up again and head back to Halifax. Mike got a little sick when we stopped for gas and puked out the door. That was really quite funny. I passed out for the whole trip back and the boys dropped me off at home.
I got to sleep until about 5pm when I had to get up to go play and all ages show at the Pavillion. That show was really good. There were about 150 kids there and they were really into it. I made it home after that and just smoked some dope and watched "The Cell" which was on TV. that movie is really cool when you are stoned.
Sunday was rather uneventfull, I had a band practice and then did some school work for my exam that I had on Monday.
I hope that this weekend will be as fun. Dead Red is playing at the Seahorse here in Halifax with the Dean Malenko's and the Treble Kings from Moncton.
The best part about being in a band that travels around is that you start to see the same faces every show you play and it is like going to visit family. I love getting into town and greeting our friends and getting to party with them. It is not a lie when they talk about Sex, Drugs and Rock and roll.

Not much is new with me today. I just got back from a band practice with Blackout and that was pretty good. I am really tired so I left a little early. My test today sucked and I didn't do as well as I wanted; can't have everything I guess. I am going to talk to Andy from Utility tattoos tomorrow though about a new tattoo that I want. He is designing one for me. I think it will be pretty cool. I doubt that Mom would like it, but she doesn't like tattoos anyway. I also found out today that Dead Red's show on the 8th of January at the Marquee got canceled as they are bringing in April Wine. Mike Campbell is an asshole. I am really glad the Marquee is closing. That's it for today. I am really tired right now and I think that I will go to bed and get rested up for my lab at Dal tomorrow. Later

Hey there. I only started this to keep in touch with some family but I guess I can keep it updated as to what I am up to. I tend to be quite busy with things. Tonight, I am studying for a pharmacology test that I have tomorrow. The rest of the week consists of band practices and then 2 shows this weekend. I hope to post more about that stuff later. That's it for now.
